Between Europe and Asia

The Bashkortostan Republic is a democratic lawful republic as a part of the Russian Federation, expressing will and interests of all multinational people of the republic. It is situated right between Europe and Asia.
The governmental power in Bashkortostan Republic is carried out according to the Constitution of the Russian Federation and Constitution of Bashkortostan Republic adopted by the Supreme Council of the Republic of Bashkortostan on December, 24, 1993.
The state symbols of Bashkortostan Republic include set of symbols. They are the National Flag, the National Emblem and the National Anthem. The national flag of Bashkortostan Republic is a rectangular three-color width, consisting of horizontal equal stripes. In the center of the white stripe there is a gold emblem - a circle, inside of which a stylized flower of kurai (saltwort), consisting of seven petals is depicted (seven Bashkir clans). The National Emblem represents the image of the monument to Salavat Yulaev against the rising sun and its rays, depicted in a circle framed with the national ornament. Below there are depicted inflorescence of kuray. Music of the National Anthem of Bashkortostan Republic is the composition «Republic» by composer F.Idrisov.
The republic is situated in densely populated and developed region of the country. Its territory is 142,9 thousand square kilometers (0,8 % of the whole territory of Russia). Bashkortostan occupies the main part of the South Urals and neighboring plains of Bashkir Priuraliye and elevations of Bashkir Zauraliye. Having been situated between Europe and Asia, Bashkortostan combines the features of neighboring vast heterogeneous areas: Eastern-European and Western-Siberian plains. The ranges of the South Urals have great influence on the climate. It stretches from the Northern till the Southern borders and interfers with penetration of cold air mass of Siberia in winter.
There are more than 4050 thousands people. It is on the seventh place on population quantity among regions of Russia, but its on the second place on its ethnic diversity. Russians, Bashkirs and Tatars predominate in the republic. There are also Chuvashs, Maris, Ukrainians, Mordvinians, Udmurts, Byelorussians and others. Bashkir and Russian are state languages of Bashkortostan.
Bashkortostan is secular state. No one religion can become as a state or obligatory. The religious associations are separate from the state and equal before the law. The Central Muslim Religious Boards of Russia and European countries of CIS, Ufa Diocesan Administration, The Muslim Religious Board of RB, The Muslim Religious Board of the Republic of Bashkortostan under the Central Religious Board of Muslims (Salavat city), association of the evangelicals’ churches - Baptists are functioning there. There are nontraditional religious movements are registered in the republic side by side with traditional religions.
Spiritual institutions training professional religious persons are opened by religious centers. There are a lot of ecclesiastical writings and spiritual periodicals in the republic. Koran was translated into Bashkir and published there. Bodies of state power cooperate with religious associations and believers according to the Constitutions of the Russian Federation and Bashkortostan Republic.
Ufa is the capital of Bashkortostan. It is the biggest industrial, cultural, scientific and administrative centre of not only the republic, but also of the whole Ural region and it is one of the leading cities of Russia.
